Diffractive Optically Variable Image Devices (DOVID’s) are usually designed in the orthogonal coordinate system. This contribution introduces the concept of a spiral-based coordinate system with a characteristic diffraction pattern. Specific aspects related to design, processing and origination technology are discussed.
