Security holograms as they have been in use in the first euro banknote series have been challenged by counterfeiting attacks where the optical properties have been emulated by the use of commercial holographic technologies. This talk will describe the technologies used for euro banknote emulated holograms and the measures undertaken to stay ahead of this trend.
