In the past decade, security threads and foils based on micro-embossing and optical interference thin film layers have become a leading security technology in the global banknote market.
In recent years, we see an upcoming demand towards increased attractivity and security. Patch application and multicolor approaches, which can be found in packaging industry, mainly address the demand for attractivity. In contrast, with the new members of the RollingStar® product family we have developed new approaches for addressing both the needs for enhanced attractivity and for counterfeit resilience.
RollingStar® Patch allows to combine the well established technologies of micromirrors, thin-film interference layers and structured demetallization on the very focused area of a patch security element. Here, the full strengths of brilliance, security, recognizability and freedom of design can be condensed to a highlight feature on the banknote.
RollingStar® Venus combines micromirror technology and interference layers with a nature-inspired principle of color manipulation. The interference conditions are shifted locally by nanostructuring resulting in millions of precisely defined multi-color micro-reflectors.
With these approaches, we generate a new class of security features giving rise to an unprecedented wealth of optical effects.
